MEDIA POLICY

ASM welcomes the professional editorial staff (including photographers and camera crews) of print, online, and broadcast media at its conferences, symposia, and educational events. Complimentary registrations are extended to the “working media” for the conference with the same amenities as other full-price registrants. Other publication staff (non-editorial positions, such as publishers, advertising directors, and advertising representatives) may attend only as part of exhibitor staff and must pay the full registration fees.

Freelance journalists who do not have media credentials and a professional affiliation will not receive press passes. However, exceptions will be considered by the Society President if freelancers belong to the National Association of Science Writers or a similar organization. Companies or organizations producing publications, videos, and/or other electronic media intended for marketing, advertising, financial analysis, or public relations purposes may not register as members of the media.

No member of the media will be permitted to record symposia, lectures, meetings or other events without prior written permission from the ASM, and no film or videotape may be broadcast or rebroadcast without prior review and written permission from the ASM.

ASM reserves the right to bar from this and future meetings any registered media personnel who, at the determination of the Society President, misuse media privileges to engage in activities other than journalistic pursuits.

REQUEST A MEDIA PASS!

Members of the media interested in obtaining media pass for the 2019 ASM meeting programs and events must register in advance. No onsite passes will be granted! The ASM will provide media representatives fair and equal access to association activities and participants as time and circumstances permit. Attendees who are not designated speakers at events cannot be quoted during sessions. If an event is designated a “closed meeting,” it will be closed to all media. ASM Board of Directors, members meetings, and committee meetings are closed to members of the press.

To register for the 2019 ASM meeting, members of the media should complete the Media Pass Request Form. Credentials will be verified and approved by the ASM before media passes are issued. Please allow at least 30 days for this process. Once approved, media passes will be made available at the meeting registration desk. Proper media credentials must be presented upon arrival, and the credentials must show a direct affiliation with an accredited news organization (print, TV or radio). Public Information Officers from universities may also receive press passes with proper credentials and ID. For additional information, please contact the ASM meeting planner, John Murray!
