The run was named after Dr. Gordon L. Kirkland, a prominent mammalogist who made many contributions to this field and to the Society. One of Dr. Kirkland’s accomplishments included being the founder of the Shippensburg University Vertebrate Museum. Dr. Kirkland’s goal for the museum was to help provide research for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. In 1998, shortly before Dr. Kirkland passed away, he received the Hartley H.T. Jackson Award for his long and outstanding service to the Society. Because of Dr. Kirkland’s goals, the proceeds from the run go to the Future Mammalogist Fund, which gives Grants-in-Aid for student research.
Due to some campus construction concerns, we have slightly altered the route originally posted. Start/Finish line will be outside the student union.
